Descriptive Language

You had some excellent examples of descriptive language which we posted around the room last week. Post a comment with another example of interesting and descriptive language...you may find it in a book or create it yourself.

Here's my example: "The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning." from Tuck Everlasting, by Natalie Babbitt

It was night, but there was an enormous full moon hovering just above the trees that framed the meadow. It cast a silver blue light strong enough to throw shadows and made everything look like it was underwater, an impression that was strenghtened by the gentle breeze blowing on the soft grass.

A perfect day is when everyone gets that happy feeling, like when the sun shines down a rainbow on a cloudy day, like the feeling a child gets the morning after Santa comes, or when they can ride the brand new red bicycle without training wheels. When everyone feels like the world is wonderful, and nothing is holding you down so you fly.

People have been asking me. What was it like surviving the crash? And I would answer, I donno... All I could see was the clear blue sky fading into a pure black screen of unconsciousness and feeling my warm olive tan hands ice cold as I hit the ground with a bang.

Friends. A simple word isn't it? It's uttered everyday to almost every person imaginable. Who are your friends? I used to think that friends were the people that you could laugh and talk to. Now I know that friends aren't that, they're the people that touch your hearts. You could spend hours with them doing nothing at all and it can be the best time of your life, just because it was with them. They're the people you can share your secrets with, cry with, laugh with, and just have fun with. They don't judge you or make you change. They accept you exactly as you are. They look at you and they see a great person, one they love spending time with. You all share something in common and are tied together by memories, tears, laughs, and smiles. You're tied together by love for the other. Friendship is the strangest but greatest thin in the world. I find my time with my friends, the best times of my life. My friends are my heart, my soul, my fun, my laughter, tears, love and my life.
