Exploded Moments

An exploded moment looks at life through a microscope, so that you can appreciate all of the fine details of a moment.  Today we will be brainstorming some of the things we can see, hear, taste, touch and smell at the beach.  Think about a moment from your summer that you can explode, brainstorm, and write about in a detailed paragraph.  Post your paragraph in the comment section below and sign your name. Be sure to proofread for grammar and spelling.

I feel the sudden jerk of the beast as it makes its journey to the great hill awaiting us in the crimson twilight. Inside the cart, I smell the pungent aroma of steamy rubber and sticky plastic as we climb the magnificent tower. In my mouth, I detect the faint, salty residue of 30-minute-old popcorn. I feel the wind shrieking through my wet mane. Inside, I can only feel pure excitement and the sense that everything is spinning without control.
With every waking second, the cart grows nearer and nearer to the climax of our ascension. My sweaty hands close tighter around the icy metal columns to my left and right. Inside I am screaming, but outside, I am a safe shut tight.

A bubble floats down over my head and suddenly a burst of screams and cheers fill my ears. Looking up from the path laid before me, the fluffy, white clouds grab my attention when they have the chance. They frame the painting above me. The slow, deep beating against my ribs hurt and I wince slightly. Strong wafts of the smell of pretzels overtake me and I feel sick to my stomach. Scanning the faces around me I realize I'm not the only one. Faces of all kinds and all emotions surround me, closing in on me, until I am trapped in a little box. The cool night air whisphers secrets to me, feeling calm and relaxed compared to the whoosh of air the rollercoaster, looming over me, mid-spin, breaths down to Earth. I can smell the anxiety in the air, cold and fresh, minty and sharp. A lone baseball hat floats to the ground in a hot air balloon. The constant pound of drums fill the air in my bubble and I wonder if anyone else can hear it. I take a shaky step forward in the line for the rollercoster ride. It feels as if I had just experienced an earthquake. Maybe I had.

As the evening sun falls into place, the water shimmers like diamonds until a fierce wave interrupts and the light scatters across the whole ocean. The hungry ocean erodes the sand away, always coming back for more. I can't hear the music being blasted in the distance, it is being muffled by the loud roars of the sea, pounding on the sand underneath it. The aroma of salty air hits me like fresh cut grass on a cool summer evening. Standing on the shoreline, the wet sand pulls me down into it, securely cradling my feet. As I cut through the icy water it feels like I'm stepping outside on a crisp winter morning. I can taste the salt in my mouth as a wave pelts my face with incredible force, pushing me under and trying to take me back to the shoreline with it.

The first thing I find are the rocks, slippery smooth with spray rocketing off their surface. They are jagged rocks and are cutting up the waves like razors. I wade into the forever coming waves. Into the water I plunge tasting the salt in my mouth. Ready to get out, I move to the beach. Halfway there I turn to watch the tiny fish in their sharp suits, pretty with shimmering jewels. The crushing waves dive down as if finding cover from their enemy's attack. They don't stop there though, ever slowly creeping forward until they engulf my feet. There they reach the point of retreat. The hot sand tries to singe me, telling me I am only welcome in the water. This is not my territory they tell me, I must leave. One more thing nags at me, the smell. As high tide goes out the smell becomes one of murky water and mysterious depths. It is gross like last night's dinner. Everything can smell it. Yet none want anything to do with it. Even me. So I leave.

The feeling on my finger tips, the pounding of the ball is exactly what I live for. My chest aches and it gets harder to breath. Now breathing through my mouth I stop. I slowly bend down. Feeling the drip of sweat run down my face feels as if rain run off of a window. I eventually take the bottom of my jersey and whip it off. As I slowly let go I just so faintly hear my name,I turn. Then realizing my coach was calling a player from the bench like an eagle calling their young. When she finally reached the table that stood on the sidelines, the whistle blew.

One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. I count the steady strides. I see the monstrous jump getting closer with each pounding of his hoof. One, two, three... I rise into two-point as we soar over the jump. I feel like a hawk. I feel like a hawk up in the air. I feel as if I am flying. As I brace for landing, the strong aroma of horse manure fills my nose. "Oof." We hit the ground with a light bump. As I sit back down I swiftly look at his beautiful head. It slightly bobs with his canter. "Good job, boy," I murmur, "good job." As I gently pat his shoulder with praise I feel the warm sweat on his shoulder. I notice he's soaked as if he just went swimming, "you need a break, bud," I say as I lightly pull back on the reigns. "Don't worry, you did great." -Jenna Morse

It was a mild summer day the air was dense. Sweat runs down my forehead like a waterfall, I pound my soft black leather mitt. The scent of hotdogs surround me the taste of bubblegum in my mouth. The batter comes to the plate barely taps it, the pitch is delivered like an express package from FedEx. I hop on my toes the the batter swings. The ball comes flying at me, I dive at the ball and heart he thud of the ball landing in my glove safely. I hit the ground I held my mitt up like a gauntlet and I heard the umpire scream like a banshee "OUT!". I get up and toss the ball to the pitcher then I return to first base as if it was my beast and I were a bird.

We climb. Higher and higher. Going straight up. Everyone is quiet, waiting like a lion waiting for its prey, ready to pounce. We stop at the top of the hill. I turn around to see half of the park. Then we shoot straight down. Screams pierce the air like birds screeching. The wind whip through my hair as we do loops and twists and turns. Then we go upside down. There are even more screams then before. We went up and did twists and turns. Me laughing the whole time. My arms in the air. Then the ride comes to a stop jolting us forward. "Thank you for riding Fahrenheit. The roller coaster that goes 50 mph. Have a sweet day in Hershey!" The speaker says.

My heart pounds as my eyes slither along the diagonal, people on every side of me staring me down as if I were in a tigers cage about to be eaten for lunch . The pressure squeezes my whole body telling me to go. I start my run, every step my heart thumps faster every second, every step I feel more pressured. Sweat runs down my face like a water fall, both landing softly on the floor beneath. Step by step, I think about what is going to happen next. I attack the skill like a kid in karate class getting stronger every time. The second meet and this was the end, the very last skill. I can feel the springs in the floor squeak and bounce. I push my feet into the floor and bounce up towards the sky. I feel like the queen if the world as I tuck my feet. I turn by body around and as my feet fly over my head I think about the landing. This was the last part, slowly I reach the ground. As my feet reach the ground, I steady my body as if taking a step would lead me to lava at the bottom of an endless pit. I stick my feet into the ground and present to the judge. As walk off the floor see my coaches and teammates coming towards me like a herd of elephants, all to congratulate me! I felt so powerful as if I did the impossible. I will never let my fears get in the way again.

The warmth of the sun tickles and pricks the hairs on the back of my neck, soothing yet strange. The sound of my oars breaking the water, along with the occasional cold splash when I lift them, wakes me up from a drowsy morning haze. Arms aching, I row harder, getting closer to the dock on shore, which was slowly sliding into the lake over the years. Arriving at my destination, I cast my cargo onto land, and confidently take one step onto the dock, my leg muscles stretching in a lunge position. Pushing off of the boat with my other foot, I realize that rather than being greeted by solid ground, I am greeted by my knee, smashing with a deep burning sensation into my nose, followed by numbness. Shocked, I plunge up to my calf in the water, and I'm all but exhausted. The waves lap softly against my legs, reminding me that I have no spare clothes...

As it pushed and pulled me, I began to tremble. As it pushed me up like a ferocious hawk hunting its prey, the smell of wetness fades as it drops me I fly down like a bird. Then once again the smell of wetness returns .I release a deep breath ,as it soars me up and down like an angry bird tossing me around like I was a worm. My eyes shut tight and I captured the beautiful Image of the land.

Dales Exploded Moment

I step on the smooth warm sand. It finds it's way through my sandals and tickles my feet as I walk. I approach the water. It wraps around my ankles, as if it is about to grab me. It is colder than snow going down the back of your shirt. The waves looked like sky scrapers as they grew. I paddle out slowly, to where the waves break. The waves crashing were a building being torn down. I sit there on my board, waiting for a big wave. Then I see it. A ginormous wave. I turned around and paddled as fast as I could. Then, I'm on top of the wave. I feel as if I am flying. Soaring with the birds. The sea water splashing in my face, and the taste of salt in my mouth. Then I am back on shore.

My face was smooth like a crystal ball. I could feel the steaming hot air rushing by me as an airplane would. Tis was the moment this was the most exiting day so far in my 7 year lifetime. I made the decision to make this memory last my whole life. "Cannon ball" I had just done what I thought impossible for me I had just dove from the 12 feet diving board. I felt as if I just learned to fly. This day will surely slap some sense into me every time I think I can't do something new.

I'm running bare foot across the silky white sand as I catch a glimpse of a purple abyss. It's like everything froze and it was just me gazing at the star filled sky. As I stare at the brightest star, it was almost as if the galaxy formed around it. Then time comes back and the aching pain in my feet hits me like a wrecking ball. I'm told to leave by the chilly blue water as it lays over my feet. It brought with it the odor of a mix between salt and a public bathroom. I run back to my car around the other side of the gulf and pull away wishing that those stars could last for ever.

As I dip my toes in the frigid water, I realize that today was going to be a stay out of the water day. I walk back to my beach chair and wonder if the water was going to warm up. I can feel the hot summer sand in between my toes. The wind is blowing through my hair as I watch the waves crash down on the surface of the sand. The sand looks as if it needs the water to survive. The white foam of the water almost reaches my chair before washing back out to sea. The sand is cold on my crinkling toes as each wave comes crashing down. The seagulls are like starving humans that haven't eaten in days as they strive for dropped food. It shocks me how some people can stand that frigid water. They have seemed to not feel the pain I felt as I stepped in the water. It comes down to who wants to get frost bite and who doesn't. I didn't.

The deeper I go the greater the pressure. As I land a storm a white dust inhales me with out a sound like a tv on mute. As the dust settles a new world of color is reveled to me. Jagged rocky mountains of color saround me as I admire it's beauty. Snake like creatures slither in the creases on the mountains. Small creatures swim around me like people on a busy city street. My lungs start to to burn as if a fire has been lit, it is time to go.

SPLASH!!!!,As the wave, from the wave pool knocked me down. At The Great Wolf lodge there was a wave pool with almost 200 people in it, and when i saw the waves I dove right in. Then as I was in the shallow end of the pool, at the right time and right spot, I hit the perfect wave and it was really fun, cause the same big wave came and rolled me around over and over again.

It felt like I would plunge towards the earth like a meteor. The only thing strapping me in the seat was the hard foam with metal bars locked onto me that felt almost as it was a rock. At the same time I couldn't even feel the nearly rock hard seat as I was pushed towards the metal bars and rock hard foam. In a split second we were going extremely fast down a 90 degree hill.

The moment had come. I was in a cold sweat. When called to the plate, by my name, my grip tightened around the bat. My batting gloves rubbing against the smooth leathery material, causing the bumpy squeak sound. The roar or the crowd almost as loud as my heart beat. The pitcher nodding at me, the way to ask if the batter is ready. I return the nod. I can do this, I tell myself. She, the pitcher winds up, preparing to throw the ball. I'm ready. They release the ball. I swing when I think I should. The bat collided with the ball. I watch the ball fly, and fly, and fly. It was a home run. I had hit a home run. Cheers and cries of joy and excitement exploded from the crowd. I jog to first base not caring how fast I went. Best minute of my life.

It is a steaming hot day the sun beating down on your face. I am standing in a long line going on forever and ever. As the line moves we are going up winding stairs up into the baby blue sky. When I reach the top there are seats I slowly get into the seat. The floor under me vanishes and disappears below. Suddenly we start to move very slowly as we go up the iron rails creak. we reach the top of the rails and in a sudden instant we are speeding down the rails. we are twisting and turning. with every jerk I grabbed my seat tighter and tighter. my eyes are closed until we are not moving. we are back where we began.

I step into the warm ocean. I feel the sandy ocean floor. Then a wave hits me like a bus. I'm under water and I can't see anything it's to dark. I try and open my eyes but I can't keep them open for long, the salty ocean hurts my eyes. I finally get out from under the water. I feel safe now I'm am out the water.

We come to a stop and there is nowhere else to go. The kid in front of me asks his mom, "Where do we go now?" The smell of popcorn escaping his mouth was overwhelming. Then without warning, we shoot backwards into the pitch black. It's so dark, I can't tell if I'm closing my eyes or not. The butterflies come back to my stomach. The huge hill feels like a loopty-loop as we speed backwards as fast as a race car on the track. I look at my aunt and she looks as thrilled as I am. We both knew in that moment that we had conquered Expedition Everest.

Our mission was to walk to the boardwalk. The glass cracking sound of the seagulls filled my ears as we strode along. Obnoxious comments from my friends, "Are we there yet? We have been walking for like eight miles." made my ears want to burst. The sharp pain like knifes dipped in hot lava killed our feet as we strut along. The fiery asphalt melted our shoes. After the long journey to what felt like hours and hours we had made it to the boardwalk. Mission accomplished.

I was a 100 feet from the line. I was about to win!! I could feel the salt hit my face as I sailed closer to victory. There had to be 100 other boats behind me. my feet were soaked in water that was splashing over the side of the boat. I couldn't believe it I was about to win the biggest sailboat race of the year. 5 4 3 2 1 I crossed the finish line and won.

“Thump.” My feet hit the platform. As I come to a stop, I look over the edge of the platform, and see the ground 60 feet beneath me. The “Why am I doing this” feeling washes over me, but I have no other option. I jump. And fall. The wind screams in my face like a great hawk, warning me that I do not belong here, that my place is on the ground. But before I hit the unforgiving ground, the strong steel cable grows taught, and I am launched back into the air. For a second, all is still. As I stop my ascent, I feel powerless as I hang there. Then, just as quickly, I hurtle backwards towards the earth once again. This time, the scolding flying past my ears is more gentle, and it’s harshness grows less and less as I go slower and lower. Then the scolding ceases. And I am back where I belong. I am on the solid ground.

The wild white horses of the water beckon to me, telling me to ride them. The rough bottom of the board hits the water, sending me flying up the steep and sandy slope. There are three people up ahead. They jump away as I rocket past them. The white horses fade away, with more coming. I run to ride them.

A heart stopping drop comes unexpectedly. A crisp, raw wind claws at my body. The sound of people screaming surrounds me and falls over me like a hot blanket. As we reach the top of the ride once again I can see the whole park at once. A bolt of sensation shoots though me, but soon to come the horrifying drop. Anxiety fills me and i'm not ready for what comes next. We plummet into sudden darkness.

As the rein slips out of my sweaty palm my heart nearly fell out of my chest. I have lost my only brakes and steering wheel. I realize that Claire the dog is fixed in my path. As I attempt to pull on the reins I fail to remember that I just dropped them.As i tell whoa to command the horse to stop he goes faster. Then everything goes in slow motion. My instructor running to grab the horses bridle and the Sara yelling the dog to move. Right as I hit reality I feel a sudden jolt in speed the horse stoped right before hitting Claire

It was win or go home. It was the bottom of the 5th inning, one out. I was playing second base in my fourth babe ruth baseball game. I was just getting used to the bigger field, just like being moved up to a new school. It was hot out and the sweat was trickling off my face. There was a runner on second base and the batter hit a line drive base hit to left field. The left fielder fielded the ball cleanly and fired it to the shortstop. The shortstop then threw a laser to the plate. The runner slammed on the brakes like a car and headed back to third. The runner was in trouble, he was tagged out. I held the bag at second and the player who hit the ball ran to second. The batter took the turn past second and the shortstop whipped the ball towards me. I slapped my glove down and the runner dove back right into my glove. It went silent then a booming voice broke the quietness, OUT! Screamed the umpire. The crowd erupted in excitement! We moved on to victory.

The red car pulls in to the long driveway slowly.I hear the whining coming out of the car like a baby crying when it's hungry. My stomach full of excitement like a balloon full of air ready to burst at any second. Then I met her the frantic puppy jumps on my lap and gives me a big wet kiss. She is then quickly distracted by a white butterfly fluttering by and chases it.Now she is mine.

Before I look over the sandy dunes and the tall, tall grass, I smell the salty breeze and lick my lips only to find a distinctive, bitter taste. I shiver. I cool breeze blows through the open windows. Finally, as I turn my head I see the dark blue water. It is shining as bright as the morning sunrise glaring down an empty street. The shimmers of light on the flowing waves are bright stars on a clear night sky, dancing out in front of me.

I sit down, the bars come into contact with my shoulders. Now I knew I was at the point of no return. It had started spinning around and around. At first the the spinning gave me a rush of adrenalin. After a few short moments it all changed I felt a rancid taste in my mouth. I was getting nauseous I didn't know what to do. I tried my best to hold it back as if it were some sort of unbeatable beast. Before I knew it, it all came out as fast as I was spinning. Getting off the ride, I felt so embarrassed.

It was a ten foot beast, roaring toward me. I grabbed my solid boogie board and started rowing as fast as I could. Suddenly it hit me. I was above the wave, going so fast it felt like I was riding Codzilla in Boston. As I went forward the foul, gross sea salt went into my mouth and all the way down my throat, it tasted so atrocious. It was so awesome! It felt like I was soaring right next to my friends. Then it happened my board got stuck so badly it flipped over and guess who went with it? Me! It was that moment that made me just want to disappear and then reappear in my room like it was just a dream. But nope! It was the scariest, most astonishing thing I had ever done! I was the knight and it was the dragon. I rode that dragon all the way underwater. I finally floated back up from underwater. All my friends were right there to save me, it was the best time of my life!

Our cart pulls around the corner and I get a knot in my stomach. I'm so nervous for this ride yet a little part of me is saying this won't be bad this will be the best experience of your life. Then I hear a sound, the sound of a gear shifting and I know the ride has begun. We start to slowly go up the steep hill, all that's holding me back from plummeting straight back down is my seat in the cart. We are about half way there now almost to the drop. The smell of sweat and fried food fill my nose and I take it all in. I am going to do this. Next thingI know the sound of 7 passengers screaming at the top of there lungs is ringing in my ears, and suddenly I realize. The ride has begun.

I was climbing a slope with my bike, as I accelerate up the slope one of my tied shoe laces fell into one of the sprockets the lace yanks my leg down like a 20 pound barbell being dropped. When my leg and the gear collide then gear cuts up and guest stuck in the adipose layer and when I stop I look down and there is blood flowing like a kitchen faucet. Then I work up the courage to pull my leg off the gear and rode home.

The large line ahead of me buzzes with excitement as I move forward one spot.I close my eyes imagining what it will feel like to ride that roller coaster and feel a breeze down my neck. I am shaken by my friend as she tells me to move forward. I sprint to the open spot straight ahead and almost crash into the people in front of me as if I am the first domino and if I hit the rest, they will all go tumbling forwards. I hear an assortment of screams as we near the cart that will take us towards the dreaded drop. It seems the line in front of us has thinned out and we are next. I squeeze my friends hand as if it is the string of a balloon I desperately won't let go of. I jump in the cart and pull down the safety bars. We start out heads looking straight up. At the top I see the admirable lights of the park. Then we plunge straight down.

I kept the consistent 1-2-1-2 in my head from posting in the bouncy trot, but it all stops when I stop and sit. My instructor Mallory’s voice rings in my ears telling me what to do. So I put my leg back on the animals stomach and with a slight toss of her head my horse transitioned from being in a bouncy and springy trot to a smooth, softer gait. All I knew was I was sitting on an animals’ back that was ten times my size and all I had to stop was some small reins that sat between my sweaty fingers. The warm wind was whipping past my face and coming with it was the hypnotizing scent of horses. If I didn’t pay attention to the speed and the hoof beats rumbling like thunder beneath me I would have never realized I was cantering. It was a fantasy, like I was reading a book about flying horses, yes that’s it, it felt like I was flying. Now let me tell you it was incredible, no, it was marvelous!

The loud banging noises continued from start to finish. Entertainment is a three hundred sixty degree view from shows to games. I was very quiet on the outside but excited in the inside and ready for the day. I can smell the clear air and can feel the wind blow in my face on the cloudy day. Awhile from then the day grows old, my legs are ready to shut down, but my brain is still strong jumping till it explodes. I feel very excited to return next year, but for now time begins to tick away until that day comes.

Slap. The slimy mud splattered everywhere as I belly flopped into it. The soothing yet disgusting substance warmed me like a beautiful summer day in the middle of August. I was happy, relieved in a sense, UNTIL my nose caught whiff of the revolting fecal-like smell. Just then I realized what a terrible idea taking a swim in the local mud puddle was... The sun's warm calming rays hit my mud ridden body as I was getting to my feet. Once again the happy and relieving feeling emerged as the mud hardened on my chest, face, and my legs making me feel like a crispy, powerful mud monster. Even though I smelled like poop and I was so dirty, I had fun.

Shane's Exploded Moment

I take a long deep breath, the slight wind blows like a giant whispering across my check. I lower my hand a snatch like a burglar in the night the cold hard shaft of my arrow. I sigh, I need to make the best shot of my life. I lift the great timber in my hand feeling the tightrope spanning its tremendous limbs. I touch the plastic knock against the metal bead. gain the wind whispers in my ear, I wait for its ancient tale to be recited. Then I lift the bow and pull the string hesitating as my fingers groan from pulling the weight time after time, then I go on as I hear the faint screech as metal rubs against metal assaults my ears as I draw the mighty string. I stay like this for a split second then I release the string and everything seems to freeze. My gaze follows the arrow as it wobbles and spirals though the air embarking on its great journey. I hear a soft thud and reality comes rushing back to me. I lower the timber and place it on its stand like a whale beaching on its shore. I wait, the range master yells a command and I go to inspect my work. 42/50. the best score of my life. Joy fills me as I realize the feat I just overcame.

The sparkling sun blinds me. I step into the sand where the scattered shells clutter around my feet and cut me open like sharpened knives. I creep towards the shore like a predator slowly approaching it's prey. Finally, I plunge into the bitter cold water making my whole body go numb. Standing there like a soldier, I try to avoid going deeper into the shimmering sea. Gradually, I sit down letting the fish skim my leg. Then BAM...the waves crash into me letting the taste of salt fill my mouth. I jump back to my feet like a balloon rising from the ground. Finally, I hear my name being howled. It's my family. Racing back to them the scalding sand warms my toes like a fire on a winters night. I finally realize the sun was setting and I had overstayed my welcome. I took one last breathe to savor the aroma of coconut sunscreen before my departure.

As I jumped into the crystal clear pool, it was like glass being shattered by a rock. The water was so cold, I felt like I had been zapped by Mr. Freeze’s freeze blaster. I stood there for about .5 seconds, and then got out as fast as I could. My swim shorts felt ridiculously cold and they were clinging to my legs and making me shiver. I grabbed my towel and wrapped it around my waist. Warmth at last.

Splash! He did it. He went to the top. He jumped from the old dead tree. The tree that looms over the water, casting a shadow over the water. I can go higher. I know I can. The tree splits towards the base. Which gives you a sort of handrail to clutch onto. The tree starts to get steeper. Boards are nailed to the tree like ads on a billboard. I step onto the first rung. Stable. The second. Stable. The third is wobbly. It moves to much to be stepped on. So I place my foot in the middle and keep climbing. I suck in air. And pause. Voices egging me on. A crowd has gathered at the base of the tree. Some eyes stare at me. Others looking away. My hand hits the top rung. I think about jumping. But that wouldn't have been worth the climb. Instead I keep going. My feet are on the last rung. My arms wrapped around the tree as tight as they will go.
And I let go. The water rushing towards me. Slow at first but then too fast. When you jump off that tree it feels like you fall for too long.
And I've never felt better.

46...47...48, I have reached the top of the metal staircase. The staircase creeks every time I shift my weight, as if one wrong move could make the structure collapse. A man at the top of the staircase gestures for me to come forward. As I slowly and thoughtfully walk toward him I peer through the circular holes in the floor of the platform. I can see all the way to the first stair, glinting in the sunlight. It's a fairly long way down, two and a half stories. I then raise my head and look over the lines of people waiting to be in my position. "Okay, this is," the man snaps me out of my daze with his deep rough voice,"simple. All you have to do is take a few running steps and then jump. I will tell you when to go." The man, whose name tag reads Jim in big block like letters, is stocky and fair skinned. The structure sways slightly with Jim as he leans out over the side waiting for the wind to slow down. As the wind blows it brings the aroma of fried food and gas with it. Then the wind diminishes and Jim turns towards me."Whenever your ready, hon." I shuffle my feet to the left and align them with the slightly worn blue foot stickers. Below me the immense gray air bag sways in the breeze. Almost as if waving to me. Telling me to jump and crash on to it, that their is nothing to be afraid of. My lungs take on one more breath of polluted air. I start to run, my legs threatening to give out from fear. And I jump.
One less thing on my bucket list.

The large line ahead of me buzzes with excitement as I move forward one spot. I close my eyes imagining what it will be like to ride that humongous roller coaster. I am shaken by my friend as she tells me to move forwards. I fly towards the empty spot. I almost hit the person in front of me. I am like the first domino of many, and if I hit the rest, they will all go tumbling forwards. As I hear an assortment of screams, I start to think about the dreadful dive. I squeeze my friends hand as if it is the string of a balloon I desperately won't let go of. We are next. I jump into the cart and pull down the safety bars. As we start, our heads are looking straight up. When we reach the top for a few moments I see the beautiful lights of the park. Then we plunge down into the darkness.

I stand on top of the cold metal tower, looking over the edge into what seems like an endless drop. I must have a brain the size of a walnut if I am actually going to jump off of this thing. I slowly back up to the center of the platform. I take a huge breath that could've made Godzilla's lungs explode. Engulfed with fear, I take off running at the speed of light. my toes just barely touch the edge of the platform and I am off into the sky like a 747 on caffeine. the world spins as I try to lean back to spread impact energy. After what seems like a couple millennia am absorbed into the airbag. I stumble off of the airbag to go find my parents. I glance up at the tower thinking to myself "nah, that wasn't bad"

The horses hoof beat suddenly changed now I am faced the other way. Slowing the rythem down with my voice. I look down to the end of the arena it felt like it was never going to end like your car ride to California. I suddenly take a sharp turn and the hoof beat gets faster and faster. I reach 3rd marker I say whoa my horse comes to a stop and slides 35 feet with no tension I back up stop and nod at the judge the suspension did I come out with a score?

We are in Gardner facing Groton / Dunstable. We are the Lunenburg Bengals . It is tied 6-6 . I could see the anger in # 64's eyes. The center snapped the ball with all of his strength. The center and #64 were sprinting towards me. I eventually got past them but the middle linebacker . Enzo Marrone, already made the quarterback fumble . It looked like his hands were covered in butter !!! We get the football and end up scoring another touchdown !!! Then, when the other team gets the ball, Jack Cote i intercepts a pass ! We end up scoring again !!!!!!!! We end up winning that game 24-6. GO BENGALS !!!

The score was 4-4 late in the game. It was my turn up as the chill ran up my spine. I selected my bat and approached the batter’s box. Sweat dripped down my neck, and adrenaline was pumping through my body. I take a few practice swings as I observe the pitcher. As I step into the batter’s box everything slows down. I take deep breaths to calm myself and fix my stance. I stare down the pitcher as he takes signs from the catcher. As the pitcher starts his windup, all of the fielders get ready as if the ball was heading their way. Motion after motion I watched as he hurled the ball toward the catcher’s mitt, my heart raced. I could see the clean white ball approaching me. I took a step and drove the ball. The ball went farther and farther I could taste the victory as the ball sailed over the fence for a home run! Everyone rushed out of the dugout to celebrate our 5-4 win!

It was hooked. I knew from the sudden jerk of the tiny boat. It was deep and diving deeper. The boat was rocking from side to side as it felt like a roller coaster. The back fin was propelling the fish forward. I could see the fish cutting through the water like a pencil being dropped into the water. The fish was then scooped into the boat. The were the equivalent razors. As I lifted up the Goliath it started to whip its tail.

A thin layer of white rested, as if the mountain was a newly made bed filled with heat. Moving in multiple spots, eyesight moving in directions of a compass. The sky filled with clouds, slowly covering the only beam of light left. The wind grew stronger as it slightly tugs my weight. Pores were empty like holes in the ground, sweat running miles through my scalp and down my left cheek. Lungs fill with excitement as we embrace our last minute of victory before we head back down.

In that moment at Hampton beach when a wave came crashing down on me I realized that I was going to get seaweed in my mouth. I was so mad and yet I was so embarrassed and my face turned bright red and my friend said what's wrong. I am mad because I got seaweed in my mouth and the taste was so discussing. I was saying "oh my gosh I got seaweed in my mouth." The seaweed felt like there was hair all over my body. Now you would think that I would have screamed like I was mad but I didn't.

Watching it slowly glide across the goal line, it felt like I was watching an old basketball movie, when ball rolls around the rim in slow motion. When I heard the whistle blow and saw the ball in the net, I knew we had won. In that moment I leaped over the side, forgetting everything behind me. I ran as fast as my feet could take me, to the people, that would be joining me in that final moment. It felt as if the world had been lifted off our shoulders, reliving us of that stressful moment. The crowd was roaring, but I couldn't hear this, because I was to focused on the death squeeze my friends were giving me. The way we were hugging each other it could have passed as best friends reuniting after ten years. It's impossible to explain the emotion that we were all feeling, it was like winning the lottery over and over again. I could smell everyone's sweat from playing as hard as we had been, and if you didn't know that we had just been working so hard it would have looked like we were caught in pouring rain. Hockey playoffs are extremely stressful.

As the wind rushes through my hair a gust of salty air. The salty taste comes in and soddenly I am in the kitchen. But then I come up and gasp for air then can't feel my face I wonder is it still there but like it never happened I go out again.

I ran my fingers along the smooth, cold surface of the water. All around me, children were splashing and giggling, in their own little worlds, but I wasn’t, I was right here, waist deep in the chilly water of Hickory Hills Lake, calmly staring out at the distant islands. I set my eyes on the horizon, as the setting sun pulled the light blue sky into it’s arms, slowly turning it from a harmless pink, to bold, beautiful gold, then to dark navy blue, until the bright orange orb of light was swallowed behind pine trees. As darkness started to crawl out of it’s hiding place on the opposite side of the sky, the children and their families started to slowly pack up, and leave the beach, leaving me as a the only being left on the beach. I knew, if I wanted to swim, I should do so before night fell. I cautiously spread my arms out, as if I was about to take flight, and then my knees buckled, and I fell backwards, and was engulfed in cold water.

I feel the misty silky fog as it rolls over me and I then start my journey on the numerous paths of stones. I then arrive at the beginning of the rope bridge. As I look down nausea overcomes me and the fears of the murky rapids below begin to concave. I take my first step onto the wooden structure and as I look up at the endless clouds I see the sun gleaming in from the shadows. Then I take a step and another and another and another. I take one more step and I am onto the cliff. I had made it, I had succeeded on this journey of only 30 feet across a 98.5 ft. deep crevasse of ocean wave but I was proud of myself for facing my fears.

The cool breeze whipping against my skin. My anxiety pumping up as I look over the edge of what seems to be a deadly drop to the crystal clear water. The slippery mud under my feet making me recoil at the smell. The screams of the wind are egging me on, pushing me closer to the giant drop. I make my way to the highest point of the cliff that I can go before the tight rope slips out of my hand. Finally my feet run as if going against my will, I was thrown off the cliff. The rope burns my hands forcing me to let go. I plummet down toward the water. My skin stings from the wispy wind that seems so thick that you could cut it with a knife. I smashed into the water like I was smashing through glass. Finally it was over. My goal complete.

I hear the shrieks of the girls. All of them running to shore as the beast creeps through the water. But not me. I force myself to move forward. Every step I take is one step closer to the beast. I pull my feet out of the water for each step being careful not to drag them. Dragging would only hide the vicious monster's face leaving me clueless as to when it would strike. Finally I made my move. I grabbed the beast's neck and lower body for maximum control. The once slow creature came to life in my grip. The thrashing of the beast nearly knocked me over. I waded towards the shore carrying the monster as high above my head as possible. Once on shore I threw the monster in a giant bucket where it lived out the rest of it's life. After witnessing the beast's final thrashes, I returned to the party with the cold, dead, feeling in my hands for the rest of the day.

I walk as slowly as a turtle. Looking to see if anything is near. Then I bolt. Up my street in a flash looking to see if anything has arrived. The rough pavement scraping against my new shoes. A neighbors cat sprints beside me as if challenging me to a race. I keep running and come into range. Next to my mailbox a box awaits almost crying to be opened. I walk up to my mailbox curious as the cat beside me. I rip open the smooth cardboard box and see the item and all it's glory .

Slap. Mud splatters everywhere as I plung into the brown substance. The mud coats my arms, legs, chest, and even my face. The mud is warm, maybe even relaxing like a warm summer day. But, all that happiness vanished as soon as my nose caught whiff of the putrid fecal-like smell coming from the mud. Was it mud? Or something else... Anyways, I began rethinking my previous choice of taking a swim in the towns local "mud" puddle. The mud hardened as I stood up, I feel like a crunchy mud monster. You should have seen the look on my moms face when I got home.

The brutal sun was beating its fire hot rays down on my skin. The mud was soft and cool on my feet as they stuck in. I felt the tug of a bass pulling on my line. The fish fought like its life depended on it. The hook was stuck in the fishes mouth like a fly on a pile of garbage.Once i had reeled in the fish I was overwhelmed with surprise of its sheer size. The bass was slimy and felt like someone had poured molasses all over its glistening scales. I struggled to get the needle sharp hook out but I managed and let the fish go.

As we hit the top of the hill there's a screech, I feel a rush of coldness throughout my body. My heart feels like a bomb ready to explode. I count 3,2,1 and close my eyes. within the blink of an eye we were off like the speed of lightning. the metal tracks roared at us as if we were on a safari in the African savannah with the lions. My heart sunk so far down my lunch almost came up! Before I knew it we were at the bottom and about to hit the next hill.

The sand whips through my lips. I walk into the makeshift sandy batters box. I lift my whiffle bat and get ready for the pitch. A beat up sandy whiffle ball pokes out of my friends hand. The wind picks up and it sounds like its calling my name. The ball comes around and heads toward me.I lift my front leg, adjust my cap and rise my bat off my shoulder. A hit now would put us on top of the board. the ball comes closer my bat becomes level with my shoulder as i begin my swing and CRACK I hear the bat sing as the ball bounces off the bat towards the volleyball net. A few more feet now and I'll have a two run home run in the bag. My sister leaps, try's to snag the ball but it just keeps sailing toward the net. I'm taking off and rounding 3rd stealing a look every now and then to see if it went over the net. I got a real good feeling once the ball over and I crossed home.

The ice cold water wraps around my feet like a snow blanket. Tiny fish dot the water like sprinkles on ice cream. The sand dry and hot was like a mini desert. The sky blue, with its yellow blazing sun, beats me to the ground and weighs me down with sweat. Kids near by would scream or squeal as they were splashed. Some ducks quaked as if they wanted my food, there's NO way I'm sharing! The day ended so fast, I wish it had never ended!!

The sun blazes in my eyes. Brighter then the lights of any city. The screams of joyful people all around me, snatched away by the wind as though a leaf in an Autumn wind. Suddenly the beastly boat below me jerks around at such an angles and such a speed it almost stands completely on its side. The gravity off and every thing silent. The waves curl over the side of the boat caressing it with the gentle touch of a mothers hand. Water splashes in my face. I can taste the salt and smell the sourness of the ocean. And in an instant it is over. The excitement filled screams and booming music returns.

It's a misty spring morning as me and my dad head of into the woods. We can hear turkey's gobbling, squirrels running and birds chirping. The racket of the turkey's gliding down from the tree tops fills the woods. The turkey's land, the creep into the decoys like a hungry fox stalking prey. The gobbles pound on my chest like a spring thunderstorm rolling in. I pull back the strings of the bow as far back as possible and then gently let's them go... It was the perfect day for the beach. The sun was beaming, the seagulls were squawking and the sound of children laughing was filling the air. It was the perfect setting for the perfect day. When my friends and I got to the beach, as if was an instinct, we grabbed our boards and headed for the wide open ocean water. As we ran towards the ocean the feel of the hot sand was burning my feet, but I ignored the pain and ran towards the water with my friends. The aroma of the saltwater filled the air and at that point it seemed like it was home. As we layed on our boards paddling out to sea the positioning we were in looked as if we were penguins sliding down a hill. We kept we paddling and paddling until we reached our destination. Then at the same time we saw it. We saw the wave. We knew then and there we had to catch it. The feeling was pure exhilaration. I kept swimming and didn't stop until I knew I was in the perfect spot. As the wave approached us we turned ourselves around and let the wave do the rest. It felt as if I was being carried by the wave, at one point it even it felt like I was flying! We rode the wave back to the warm shore. Then I looked at all my friends. I could tell in all of our minds we were thinking the same thing. Let's do it again!

Just straight across the field! I knew where I was going! "Come on, Morsie!!!!" Screamed my coach. The small beads of sweat trickling down my face as if it were rain running off of a house. I was going to win this! Yes! Three-more-strides!! I sprint like a cheetah across the finish line and I watch as a coach clicks the stop watch. I did it! Wait what? I won first!? Wow I really did what I thought was the impossible! All the boys congratulate me (the boys and girls run at different times so at this point the boys had already finished before the girls started) and I say I did great! I never knew what it was like to actually win something, it's just a little warm feeling that you get inside knowing that you can make you or in the case your team win something. I mean yes, I was certainly happy for myself but I was really delighted to win for my team! If there was a better feeling it would have to involve horses!! - Jessica Morse

Dashing through the water on a tube and smelling nothing but a fishy smell of lake water in my nostrils, mouth, and eyes. As if I was on a slay being pulled through the snow just with a bad smelling aroma on the side. My feet and body was getting stung and whipped at as we sped through the settled and calmed water. The small whoop like waves reminded me of dirtbikes rating over whoops in a racetrack as we went over the small waves. Just then whoosh into the air just as a bird would to flight. Butterflies rose in ny stomach faster then faster then you could say wow. Landing down harder then expected. It was scary but awesome, a once in a lifetime moment. Noyhing else in my head but me thinking about hiw awesome and crazy that was.

I step onto the bouncy tube. I sit down waiting to hear the rumble of the motor on the boat. It sounds like a tiger growling. After a few suspenseful minutes of waiting, we are off. We speed off like a bullet. We spin around in circles to create waves to bounce on. We bounce up and down, this way and that way. Water sprays into our eyes and faces. It feels soothing in the hot sun. The wind howls like a wolf. Our heads go up and down. As we turn to head back to shore, we hit a big wave that we had just created. My brother and I flew into the air. We were a kite in the sky. It felt amazing. The boat stopped after the huge take off. Laura said that we went probably six feet in the air. She said that we went the highest she has seen all year without someone falling off. That was the best tubing experience EVER!

Whoosh, a wave sneaks past me like a cat in the night. I wait for the wave to pass then abruptly lose my balance and flail like a fish on land. I catch myself but not before falling on the sunbaked deck of my kayak. warm blood trickles down my face like the River Styx. A great best roars past off to my right. I get up and paddle further. Every second the get more arduous, the faster I go the easier I flip when I turn , the slower I go things get further unbalanced. I continue on fighting the ever augmenting currents trying to grab me like a grape off the vine. Suddenly my kayak dips under the water and shots out form under me leaving me sprawling in the cold blue water. I open my eyes. I cant tell where up is. I swim to where I thought was the surface. My hands brush against the sand.my lungs are burning. My heartbeat is growing louder and louder and faster and faster. I try to turn around but get tangled in a thicket of seaweed. I stop thrashing and just hope I float. An eternity seems to pass. Splash, my head breeches the surface, my lungs fill with air and my vision focuses on alone kite in the sky. I just lay there and feel a deep appreciation for the little things in life, like a lone kite on a windy day.

I bolted my head into my knees and my ears where plugged with my fingers. I kept on hearing bars being rattled and screaming and something swiftly go past us . I asked my dads friend is it over yet tears running out of my eyes onto my knees. Almost he said hold on . so I did finally I was out my brother wide eyed when he came out yet happy and not scared I jumped out and hugged my dads friend and my dads.

I step on to the field. I walk to the goal, slow as a slug, my gloves like a a snake, wrapped around my hands. I study the competition as I near closer to the goal. Every step I take makes me more nervous, because the competition is stiff. I hear the screams of the fans, they are seagulls on a beach, running from a six year old who just lost his sandwich. "LETS GO LUNENBURG!" I hear as everyone takes the field. Then the sound of the whistle that suspends my train of thought. The game is on!
